Best Turkey and Ham for Subway Sandwich
The best turkey and ham for this Subway sandwich recipe is freshly sliced deli counter meat. Most grocery stores have a deli meat counter.
Locate yours and find out what turkey and ham options that they have. Request samples if they offer them.
My family prefers very thin sliced deli meats. For this sandwich recipe, I used very thin deli ham and turkey.
The types of ham that I like is “cooked ham” or an “off the bone ham”. Other options are honey, home-style, smoked, uncured, brown sugar, black forest, or a Polish ham.
Deli turkey options are oven roasted, maple, smoked, black forest, honey, off the bone turkey breast, uncured, and honey mesquite.
If buying your lunch meats from the deli counter is not an option, then you can purchase packages of pre-sliced meats in the cooler section of the grocery store.
I do not recommend using thick pieces of turkey or ham for this sub sandwich because you will not get the same great flavor.
The Best Cheese for Sub Sandwich?
The choice that I recommend is Provolone or Swiss cheese slices when topping the toasted lunchmeat sandwich. Other cheese slices such as white American, mozzarella, Havarti, or smoked gouda will work.
I prefer regular cheese slices, but I’ve used shredded cheese in a pinch when I run out of the pre-sliced version.
Best Bread for Ham/Turkey Subway Sandwich
Choosing the right bread is very important when making this Subway sandwich. You want a sub bun that is super soft on the inside and has a nice golden-brown outer shell.
Check your local bakery for the best options. Choose a bakery bread that is similar to a Subway sandwich bread.
