Swap Out Ingredients

This stir fry recipe is very forgiving and you can swap out different ingredients to make different recipes. Instead of chicken breasts, swap out and use chicken thighs.

Use low sodium soy sauce instead of the regular soy sauce. Swap out any of the vegetables (using in season ones) or you can even use a bag of frozen stir fry vegetables.

I keep a bag of frozen stir fry vegetables in the freezer for when I want to make a quick meal with very little prep.

Stir Fry Sauce Ingredients

  • Honey
  • Soy Sauce
  • Water
  • Corn Starch

Stir Fry Rice

Prepare the white rice ahead of time and set aside. Make your favorite rice recipe. You can make white rice, brown rice, or you can even use stir fried rice.

I make white rice different than most people make rice. Sticky rice is not how I want it!! You can make 1 and 2/3 cup of white long grain rice and that will make 5 cups of cooked rice.

To make white rice like I do, bring a large pot of water to boil over medium heat and add about 1 teaspoon of salt. Once the water is boiling, add the rice to the water.

Stir to combine. Continue to cook the rice until it is tender making sure to stir so the rice does not stick to the bottom.

Taste the rice to see if it’s done. Cooking times will vary. Do not overcook the rice as it will get all mushy.

Use a small hole colander to drain all the water off the white rice. Rinse the rice with cold water to stop the cooking process and remove all the starchy water.

Once all the water is drained off, place the rice into a storage container until ready to use.

Fully cooked long grain white rice.

How to Make Blackstone Chicken Stir Fry

Learn how to make stir fry with my easy step by step instructions.  Gather all your ingredients to make the stir fry chicken.

Preheat the Flat Top Blackstone Griddle to medium high heat. Set the dial of a Blackstone e-series Griddle to 400°F.

Wash and precut all your vegetables into bite-sized pieces and place into a bowl. Cut the boneless skinless chicken breast into 1-inch pieces and place into a bowl.

Prepare the stir fry sauce by combining the honey, soy sauce (you can use low sodium soy sauce), and water in a small bowl. Make sure to mix the honey into the rest of the mixture.

Combine the corn starch and water together in another bowl. Once the Blackstone Griddle is hot, oil the top of the flat top with olive oil or your favorite oil.

How to Make Stir Fry

You will want to do some multi-tasking when making this recipe. Pick two different sections of the griddle, one for cooking the boneless skinless chicken breast pieces and one for cooking the vegetables.

Add the chicken breast pieces to the hot griddle. Top the cooking chicken with some minced garlic. Season the chicken with your favorite seasoning. I like to use Lawry’s seasoned salt and Morton’s Natures seasoning.

On another section of the oiled griddle, place the assortment of chopped vegetable pieces. Season the vegetables.

Squirt some water onto the griddle around the vegetables. Cover with a dome lid to help steam the vegetables.

You may want to add them in stages if you have “hard” vegetables verses “soft” vegetables. I usually just add them all at once.

Toss the individual piles with a griddle spatula to help them cook evenly. Cooking times will vary but you do not want to cook the vegetables too much or they will turn to mush.

Remember that you still will cook them a little longer when creating the stir fry sauce. Some griddlers like to create their stir fry recipes right on the flat top, which is fine, but I like to have my chicken and vegetables dripping in the savory stir fry sauce.

I like to prepare my chicken stir fry recipe in a large medal bowl which creates the wok affect.

Stir Fry Sauce Recipe

Prepare the easy stir fry sauce by combining the soy sauce (you can use low sodium soy sauce), honey, and water in a small bowl. Make sure to mix the honey into the sauce mixture.

Combine the water and the corn starch together in another bowl. After the vegetables and chicken pieces have been cooked, add them to a large metal bowl.

Pour the honey/soy sauce mixture into the stir fry mixture. Stir to combine all together and bring the liquid to a boil.

Slowly add the slurry (cornstarch and water mixture) to the bowl and gently stir to combine everything. The sauce thickens as it cooks.

Give it a couple of minutes to let the sauce thicken. If after about 5 minutes and the sauce is not as thick as you like it, make some more of the slurry (corn starch and water mixture), and slowly pour in until the desired thickness is achieved.

Remember that the sauce thickens as the stir fry recipe cools down a bit. Serve the easy chicken stir fry recipe hot over your favorite cooked rice.

How to Make Chicken Stir Fry on the Stove

Learning how to make stir fry seems complicated, but it is not!! When making stir-fry on the stove, I’d suggest that you prepare everything before you start the cooking process.

When you add ingredients to a hot large skillet or wok, the recipe will quickly cook so you want to make sure that you have everything ready to go.

Gather all the ingredients to make chicken stir fry. Prepare the white rice ahead of time and set aside.

Use a bag of frozen stir fry vegetables or clean and cut an assortment of fresh vegetables in about 1-inch pieces. Cut the boneless skinless chicken breast into small pieces.

In a separate bowl, combine the stir fry sauce and set aside. Preheat the large skillet or wok on the stove over medium heat with a tablespoon of oil.

You will have to work in stages. Start by cooking the chicken pieces in the hot oil with your favorite seasonings.

Once the chicken is cooked, remove from the pan and place into a bowl until later. Try to leave any of the chicken drippings in the pan.

Add the vegetables and cook for a few minutes until crisp and just tender. Do not overcook the vegetables!

Put chicken back into the pan along with the vegetables and pour in the honey/water/soy sauce mixture. Stir all together and bring to a boil.

Slowly pour in the slurry (cornstarch and water mixture) as you are stirring all together. Let it bubble to thicken and then serve hot over your favorite rice.

Chicken Stir Fry Sauce

Sometimes a sauce is overlooked in stir-fry dishes. But this is exactly what makes the meal delicious and brings it all together.

I use a homemade sauce in this stir fry recipe and that is why it makes this a great Blackstone chicken stir fry recipe. Although it is tempting to use frozen or jar stir-fry mixes, fresh tastes best.

It’s a great combination of soy sauce, honey, and water that is thicken with a corn starch slurry.

Tips For the Best Stir-Fry

  1. Although this recipe seems straight forward, it has several things that should be considered before making it the most delicious chicken stir-fry.
  2. Is the sauce too thick? Add a little bit more water while it is still cooking.
  3. The sauce not thick enough for you? Make a little bit more corn starch slurry and slowly pour into the sauce until the desired thickness is achieved.
  4. Cut chicken breast into bite size pieces. It ensures that chicken is rich and tasty.
  5. Use skinless boneless chicken thighs instead of chicken breast.
  6. Substitute shrimp instead of chicken.
  7. Want to cut the salt intake? Swap out the soy sauce for low sodium soy sauce.

How to Store Stir Fry Chicken

Leftover chicken stir fry tastes awesome the next day. A lot of people like to make an extra-large batch of chicken stir fry so that they can have plenty of leftovers to eat during the week (hello leftovers in the fridge!).

Just make sure to keep the rice separate from the stir fry mixture. Store the rice in an airtight container and store the good stir fry in another airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 days. Reheat in the microwave using 30 second intervals until hot.

  2. I love stir-fries so was really pleased to find your recipe! I followed your advice of prepping all the veggies before starting to cook and I had water and cornstarch at hand just in case the sauce was to thick or thin, but by following the recipe I didn’t need either of them because it was perfect and delicious!
