What is a Club Sandwich?
The most obvious signs of a club sandwich are how this sandwich is stacked on 3 slices of toasted bread, cut in triangle shaped pieces, and secured with toothpicks.
How to Make a Club Sandwich
Gather the ingredients to make the sandwich recipe. Start with toasting the 3 slices of bread. Do not add butter to the bread.
Cook the bacon to the desired doneness and let rest on a paper towel lined plate. You can also use precooked bacon slices.
Heat the slices of deli turkey and ham until they are warmed all the way through. Spread a layer of your favorite mayonnaise onto each slice of toasted bread.
On the first slice of mayo smeared bread, add a slice of ham and then a slice of turkey. Top with a couple slices of cooked bacon, slices of tomatoes, and a slice of American cheese.
On another piece of the mayo toasted bread add the slices of ham and turkey, top with pieces of bacon, a layer of crisp lettuce, and another slice of American cheese. Assemble the club sandwich by starting with the first piece of layered bread.
Stack the second piece of layered bread on top of the first and then flip the third piece of mayo bread on top of the whole sandwich pile.
How to Cut a Classic Club Sandwich
After the club sandwich has been stacked, it’s time to cut it into the classic shape. Place the assembled sandwich on a clean cutting board.
Start by securing the sandwich layers using toothpicks. If you want a restaurant looking sandwich, then you will need to use cocktail frill toothpicks.
The cocktail toothpicks add some color and makes it easier for the person eating the sandwich to remove them. To insert the toothpicks (all the way through) in the correct spot, start by having one side of the sandwich facing you.
In the MIDDLE of that one side, insert a toothpick (all the way through) about one inch in toward the center of the sandwich. Do this same technique on all four sides of the sandwich.
Once you have all four toothpicks secured in the club sandwich, it’s time to cut it. Cut the sandwich in half by cutting from one corner to the opposite corner.
Rotate the sandwich slightly and cut the sandwich in half the other direction from one corner to the opposite corner. You should have four triangle shaped pieces with a toothpick in the center of each piece.
How to Assemble a Club Sandwich
Flip two pieces of the freshly cut sandwich so that the bread crust is laying on the cutting board. Make sure the toothpicks are holding each layer of the sandwich together.
The point of the triangle should be facing up with the freshly cut sides showing. Holding the top of each toothpick, smooch the two pieces together so they are all lined up.
Then, push the toothpicks slightly into the opposite sandwich to secure all the layers together. Do this again with the other two sandwich pieces.
You should end up with two long triangle shaped club sandwich pieces.

Club Sandwich – FAQ
Classic Club sandwiches are a triple-decker sandwich made out of three slices of white bread, deli sliced turkey and ham, bacon lettuce, tomatoes, cheese slices, and mayo.
A club sandwich aka clubhouse sandwich are sandwiches containing bread – typically toasted, cooked deli meat slices and bacon. The sandwich is usually cut in quarters and anchored by cocktail sticks.
The club house sandwich originally did not contain cheese, but as is often done with recipes passed along, things changed. Currently you have the freedom to add any sandwich fillings that you like such as pickles and any kind of cheese.
