But after having one, I now know why they are so popular.  The combination of the melting ingredients along with the crispy outer shell is what makes this sandwich taste so unbelievably good!!

I find peanut butter jelly sandwiches hard to match. It makes sense that this sandwich is one of our childhood staples. It is simple to prepare, tastes amazing and provides some protein.

Tips for the Best Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

Use the ingredients you like best. Such as, if you like whole wheat bread instead of white bread, then use what you like.  I like soft white bread that is semi thick.

Sliced White Bread and also buttering the bread.

Try brioche bread for an extra decadent twist. Jam, fruit preserves and even fresh fruits can serve this sandwich as well.

Raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or blueberry jam or jelly all will work. I like to make my own strawberry rhubarb jam

Use your favorite peanut butter. My favorite peanut butter is Jif Peanut Butter.

When spreading the butter onto the bread, make sure to add a thin even layer.  Not too thick and not too thin!!

Ingredients for Grilled PB & J

This Grilled PB & J recipe is very simple. Those interested in experimenting with flavors or ingredients, I have some suggestions below.

  1. Two slices of bread – Use your favorite bread.
  2. Creamy Peanut Butter – I prefer Jif!!
  3. Jelly or Jam – I like to make my own freezer strawberry jam, but you can use any flavor that you like.  The key is to use your favorite jam.
  4. Butter – softened

If you don’t have a Blackstone Griddle, then you can make this grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich recipe in a non-stick skillet on the stove. Preheat griddle skillet to medium heat.

Assemble the sandwich as described above. Place the prepared sandwich on the hot skillet.

Cook the buttered bread slices as you would for the flat top griddle. Cool slightly and serve immediately.

Grilled P B and J – Add Ins

If you make a lot of pb and j sandwiches like I do, then you might want to mix up the ingredients a little bit.  Try one or more of the following!!

  • Bacon
  • Jalapeno
  • Crunchy Peanut Butter
  • Honey instead of Jelly or Jam
  • Substitute Nutella in place of the peanut butter.
  • Add a layer of thin slices of banana to your sandwich.
  • Use a different nut butter such as almond butter.
  • Place a layer of marshmallow fluff.

How to Store Griddle Sandwich

Griddle PB&J is best when eaten warm right off the Blackstone flat top griddle.  Store any of the uneaten sandwich pieces in a tightly closed Ziplock bag or an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.

Reheat them in a nonstick frying pan or on the Blackstone Griddle.  These sandwiches can also be eaten cold.
