Best Oil for Frying French Fries?

Everyone has their favorite frying oil.  Our family has used peanut oil for many years.  We have no peanut allergies in our family so that is not a concern for us.

Vegetable oil, clear frying oil, and canola oil all make great frying options as well.

Before you start frying, have a paper towel lined pan or plate to put the French fries on after they are done cooking.  Use a digital thermometer to keep the oil at the right temperature because the oil temperature is very important.

When you put the fries into the oil, the temperature of the grease will drop.  You can adjust the temperature of the griddle but be careful to not get the oil too hot.

The best thing is to not overcrowd the oil by adding to many French fries.

How Long to Deep Fry French Fries?

The best way to tell when French fries are done is when they float on top of the oil.

Frying time is going to vary depending on the size of the French fry, how many fries you are cooking together, temperature of the oil during the whole cooking time and how crispy you want the finished French fries.

Fry between 2 – 5 minutes.  Remove the fries from the hot oil with a metal slotted spoon. Place the cooked fries onto a paper towel lined plate.

Are French Fries Vegan?

These French Fries are vegan.  Cook in peanut or vegetable oil for best results.

Why Are My Deep-Fried French Fries Soggy?

Soggy deep-fried French fries can be caused from not cooking them long enough.  Soggy fries can also be from not having the oil hot enough or letting the oil temperature drop to much when cooking the fries.  Another reason might be if there are ice crystals built up on the French fries and you drop them into the hot oil.  Make sure to bump the ice crystals off the fries before putting them into the hot grease.
