Mayo Ketchup Sauce

Mayo Ketchup Sauce in my house is called “Lick Dob”.  A sweet creamy dipping sauce or a great hamburger sauce.

For as long as I can remember, my family has been making “Lick Dob” for our French fry dipping sauce.  This is the best sauce for French fries!!

And made with only 2 ingredients.  What is “Lick Dob” aka mayo ketchup sauce?  It is 1 part ketchup to 2 parts Miracle Whip that is combined until smooth.

And yes, I said Miracle Whip and not mayo.  A more than 50-year-old recipe is so popular in our household that our guests always ask for the recipe before leaving the dinner table.

I am happy to share this delicious recipe. This is one of those foods that you keep eating and can’t believe how simple it is to make.

Miracle Whip vs Mayo

Miracle Whip is technically not a mayonnaise because it does not have the required percentage of oil.  It needs to have 65% or more of oil in the recipe. Miracle Whip is classified as a salad dressing.

It has more spices and sugar than regular mayonnaise.  In 1933, Miracle Whip was developed to be a cheaper version of mayonnaise.

There is a huge difference in the two, so if you make this ketchup and Miracle Whip sauce recipe with Hellmann’s real mayonnaise, then your dip will not taste the same as my sauce.

What is Ketchup and Mayo Mixed Called?

In our house, Miracle Whip, and ketchup mixed is called “Lick Dob”.  When we make French fries, or deep-fried chicken tenders, it is a must that we whisk up some “Lick Dob” as our dip. Some people will call this fry sauce, burger sauce, golf sauce, or French fry sauce.

What Does Mayo and Ketchup Taste Like?

Miracle Whip and ketchup combined into a smooth mixture tastes a little sweetness and a little tangy.  But the flavor is so unique that you will never go back to real mayonnaise again.

Heinz Mayochup Mayonnaise & Ketchup Sauce Mix

When Heinz came out with their Mayochup, my family had to try it!!  We were so disappointed because it tasted nothing like our homemade “Lick Dob”.

Heinz came out with a ketchup mayo sauce squeeze bottle product which is like this recipe but is not the same.  There is a huge difference between Heinz mayonnaise and Miracle Whip, so the flavor of the finished product is not the same.
