Slow Cooker Pulled Pork is a family favorite.  Shredded pork paired with my homemade BBQ sauce and then slow cooked to perfection. 

Use a combination cooking method by creating a smoked pulled pork, shred, and finish it off in the slow cooker with your favorite BBQ sauce.  Making your own slow cooker BBQ pulled pork is simpler than you might think. 

All you need are 2 ingredients – slow cooked shredded pork and BBQ sauce.  Follow my step-by-step guide to create this delectable dish! 

This beloved BBQ recipe is perfect for gathering, weeknight dinners, or even when you want to treat yourself to something special.  From sandwiches to tacos and everything in between, the options are endless.

BBQ Pulled Pork Sauce – Use your favorite sauce or make my homemade BBQ sauce recipe

The Best Pork for BBQ Pulled Pork

Choose cuts of pork that is marbled with fat such as pork butt, boneless pork shoulder roast, pork shoulder, pork roast, or pork butt roast. Pork loin is not the best choice of meat because of its lack of fat marbling.

I have made pulled pork many different ways and all of them will work for this BBQ pulled pork recipe.  Make the homemade pulled pork recipe that works for you. 

Never turn down pulled pork after a family gathering because I have even been gifted bags of leftover shredded pork after family gatherings and it works perfect for this recipe.  Leftover pulled pork is awesome for this slow cooker BBQ pulled pork recipe! 

My family prefers this smoked pulled pork recipe!!  But I also use this Instant Pot pulled pork recipe which is a slow cooker version and is cooked to perfection.  

Store bought is another option if you don’t have time to make your own pulled pork.  You can find it in the deli section or the meat section of your favorite grocery store. 

How to Make Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork

Precook the shredded pork ahead of time using your desired cooking method.  Smoked pulled pork or slow cooker pulled pork work best. 

After the pork is cooked until it is falling apart tender, cool, and separate the meat from the fat.  Discard the fat. 

Place the cleaned pulled pork in the Crock Pot slow cooker and pour the BBQ sauce over the top.  With a spoon, combine the two together. 

Turn the slow cooker on and cover with the lid.  If desired, add some chicken broth or water to the slow cooker. 

Cook on low heat for 2-3 hours or on high heat for 1 – 2 hours.  Making sure to stir with a pair of tongs to mix every so often.  

Once the pork is tender and easily falls apart, use it in your favorite recipes.  If needed, shred pork by using two forks.  Serve hot with your favorite sides.

How to Serve Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork

  • Loaded Pulled Pork Nachos – Create a mountain of tortilla chips, top with pulled pork BBQ, topped with shredded cheese, and then melt to perfection. 
  • BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza – Use BBQ crock pot pulled pork as a pizza topping along with shredded mozzarella, pizza sauce, and pepper rings.

How to Store BBQ Pulled Pork Recipe

Store cooled leftover BBQ pulled pork in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.  Reheat leftover pulled pork in the microwave, a pot on the stove or back in the slow cooker.

How to Freeze Slow Cooked Pulled Pork

Slow Cooker or BBQ crock pot Pulled Pork freeze very well.  Freeze pulled pork in an airtight container or in a vacuum sealed bag for up to 2 months.  Thaw and reheat pulled pork recipe.

Can I use different cuts of pork for BBQ pulled pork?

Yes! While pork shoulder and pork butt are the traditional choices due to their fat marbling and tenderness, you can experiment with other cuts like pork loin.  Keep in mind that leaner cuts might require a bit more attention to prevent them from drying out.

Can I make BBQ pulled pork ahead of time?

Definitely!  In fact, pulled pork often tastes even better the next day as the flavors continue to meld.  Simply store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for later use.

Ingredients

  • Pulled Pork, Prepared 3 Pounds
  • BBQ Sauce 1 Cup

Instructions

    1. Precook the shredded pulled pork ahead of time using your desired cooking method.  Slow cooker pulled pork or smoked pulled pork work best.  After the slow cooker pork is cooked until it is falling apart tender, cool, and separate the meat from the fat.  Discard the fat as we will not use it in this recipe.  This is a great recipe to use leftover pulled pork on.
    2. Place the cleaned pre-cooked pulled pork in the slow cooker and pour your favorite BBQ sauce over the top.  Combine the two ingredients together. 
    3. Turn the Crock Pot slow cooker on and cover with the lid.  If desired, add a little bit of chicken broth or water to the slow cooker.
