Unboxing a Recteq Grill
After a lot of research and product testing (other family members different smoker grills), my husband decided on purchasing a RecTeq RT-340. A semi-truck delivered the very large package on a wooden pallet.
Unboxing and set up of the pellet smoker took about 10 minutes. The instructions were super easy to follow and setting the grill up was a breeze!!
We laid all the pieces in front of us and started unwrapping them from the packaging. For this grill, 10 different pieces were included.
First, thing was to install the grill lid to the grill body. Next, was unfolding the legs and placing the bottom shelf in between the grill legs.
Open the lid and place the heat deflector over the fire pot in the bottom of the smoker. The drip pan is the next piece to install with the left side higher than the right side.
Place the grill grate in and attach the drip bucket onto the right side of the smoker.
Recteq Features
All the RecTeq grills have different features to meet the needs of its customers and price points. Choose from features such as the pellet hopper size, square inch cooking surface, grill size, temperature probes, Wi-Fi set-up, interior light, stainless steel construction, and temperature range that the grill produces.
Standard features are temperature control panel, electric plug-in (no gas tanks needed), and great customer service.
Electric Pellet Hopper
The pellet hopper size vary from grill to grill. Hopper size range from 15 pounds to over 50 pounds for the larger smoker grills.
How to Season a Recteq Pellet Smoker
After you have your Recteq grill set up, it’s time to get ready for the first cook. Make sure to clean the grill grate with soapy water and rinse to clean.
Add the proper pellets to the hopper bin so it’s at least half full. Place ¼ cup of pellets into the grill bottom “fire pot”.
Put the heat deflector, drip plate, and cooking grate back into place. Set the Recteq pellet grill temperature to 400°F and make sure the lid is closed.
When the temperature reaches 400°F, let the grill run for one hour. This is providing a seasoning to the inside of the cooking chamber and will remove any manufacturing and shipping residue.
Once this seasoning is complete your grill is ready for cooking with the auger and fire pot all primed.
Smoker Grill Operating Temperatures
These Recteq pellet grills have a precise temperature control panel. This smart grill technology has great settings that help to achieve great smoke flavor.
Use the two meat probes that come with the wood pellet grills. Here is the suggested temperatures when using the Recteq grill.
Temperature ranges vary depending on what you plan to cook. Always use a digital thermometer to check for the correct internal temperature.
- Smoking – 180°F to 275°F
- Braising/Roasting – 275°F to 325°F
- Baking – 325°F to 375°F
- Grilling – 375°F to 450°F
- Searing – 450°F +
Allow meat to rest after grilling. When holding foods, keep hot foods at 140°F or warmer. Cold foods should be held at 40°F or colder.
Always follow USDA food safety guidelines. Refrigerate perishable foods within 2 hours of leaving out at room temperature; within 1 hour when the temperature is above 90°F.
RecTeq Tips and Tricks
NEVER UNPLUG THE GRILL TO TURN IT OFF! Use the control panel to turn off the grill.
Use Smoker Pellets Only! They should be around 8,200 BTUs of heat per pound with less than 1% ash residue.
Always Preheat Grill Before Cooking.
Clean fire pot after every 16 hours of cooking time or every 3 – 5 cooks! Ash will build up and hinder ignition and heat output. ALWAYS ALLOW AT LEAST 12 HOURS AFTER COOKING TO REMOVE THE EXCESS ASH FROM YOUR GRILL!
Make sure the grill is on a level surface before cooking
Use dry, fresh pellets, store in a dry place, and clean hopper regularly from pellet dust.
Rest cooked meat before serving.
Avoid opening and shutting the grill lid frequently.
Do not overcrowd the grill when cooking.
Always use meat probe to achieve the desired meat temperature and not suggested cooking times.
To help with cleaning, use a grill brush to clean the grill grate.
Empty and Clean the drip bucket after EVERY use.
Be patient when cooking meat. Temperatures take longer between 160°F – 180°F.
Unplug and cover the grill with a grill cover when not in use.
Clean the outside of the grill with mild soapy water and then clean water. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS SUCH AS COMET OR AJAX!
Remove all pellets from the hopper and fire pot when not using it for 6 weeks or more.
Do not move the grill while it is hot!
AVOID A GREASE GRILL FIRE by cleaning or changing the foil on the drip pan before turning the temperature up to high when finishing the cooking process.
