Pizza Hut Breadsticks

We love Pizza Hut breadsticks, but this easy copycat recipe takes it up a notch.  They’ve got amazing taste, a crunchy texture, and pair perfectly with my easy homemade pizza sauce

A great bread cuisine to add to pizza night! This breadsticks dough is a very unique recipe.  It is a rustic bread recipe that is similar to focaccia.

After purchasing my Detroit-Style pizza pan on Amazon, the pan came with a pizza dough recipe from detroitstylepizza.com.  This is the dough recipe that I will be using to make these breadsticks.

Pizza Hut Breadsticks Ingredients

  • Breadsticks Dough Recipe – Semolina Flour, Instant Dry Yeast, Sugar, Water, Bread Flour, Salt, & Oil
  • Oil
  • Melted Butter
  • Minced Garlic
  • Fresh Parsley, Dried Basil, Dried Oregano
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese

Breadsticks Pan

This copycat Pizza Hut breadsticks recipe can be made in a cast iron pan, or a Detroit Style pizza pan.  I like to use a large cast iron pan so that the breadsticks have a nice crispy bottom layer.

The pan that you make this copycat Pizza Hut recipe in is very important.  My suggestion is if you don’t have the right pan then don’t make this recipe.

If you do use a different pan, be prepared that your breadsticks will taste completely different than mine.

Pizza Hut Breadsticks Dough Recipe

Gather the ingredients to make your breadsticks dough.

I use a Kitchen Aid stand mixer to make this recipe, but you can use a hand mixer.  Add semolina flour, sugar, instant dry yeast, and 85°F water to the stand mixer mixing bowl.

Stir the ingredients together for about 1 minute and then let the yeast mixture sit and work for about 15 minutes.  In a different bowl, combine the bread flour and salt with a whisk.

Spoon the flour mixture into the yeast mixture in the mixing bowl.  You can use a dough hook attachment or flat paddle to mix up the dough.

Mix all the ingredients at low speed for one minute.  With a silicone spatula, scrape down the side and bottom of the mixing bowl.

Continue mixing the breadsticks dough on low speed for 3 more minutes.  Grease two medium sized bowls with cooking spray or oil.

Divide the dough into two equal pieces and transfer to the prepared greased bowls.  With greased hands, shape each piece into a smooth round ball by folding the dough into the center and place back into its bowl.

Cover bowls with a clean towel and place into a warm area (around the stove area is a great place) until the dough has doubled in size.

The preferred proofing option is to cover the dough with a lid or plastic wrap, place in the refrigerator overnight or for 24 hours.

I have used this breadsticks dough recipe with both methods and have had great success with both.  This dough recipe will make two pans.

How to Make Pizza Hut Breadsticks

Learning how to make Pizza Hut Breadsticks is very easy to do.  Gather all the ingredients.

Generously oil a 10-inch cast iron pan or Detroit-Style pizza pan with a pastry brush, making sure to get in all the corners and up the sides.  Place the dough balls in the greased pan.

With your fingertips, press the dough out about halfway to cover the bottom of the baking pan.  Let the breadstick dough rest about 15 minutes.

This lets the gluten relax before continuing.  Continue pressing the dough out with your fingertips to completely cover the pan with an even layer.

Do not push the homemade dough up the sides of the pan.  The pizza dough should be one even layer completely covering the bottom of the pan.

Cover the baking pan with a clean towel and set in a warm place.  Let the dough rise for several minutes.

When the dough has risen 1/3rd of the way up the pan, it is time to cook your  Pizza Hut breadsticks.

Preheat the Blackstone Pizza Oven on medium-to-medium high heat with the outside oven temperature gauge reading 500°F.  Heating the Blackstone Pizza oven will take about 10 minutes.

How to Cook the Blackstone Pizza Oven Pizza Hut Breadsticks

Once the Blackstone Pizza Oven temperature gauge (on the front of the pizza oven) is 500°F, cook the bread sticks.  Place the pan in the middle of the pizza oven.

If desired, place the pizza oven door on.  Every few minutes, check the pan of cooking dough.

Rotate the pan about halfway through cooking, using the pizza peel or oven mitts.  The Blackstone Pizza Hut Breadstick cooking times will vary for every pizza oven.

Bread sticks will bake in about 10 minutes.  When the dough has a crispy golden-brown bottom crust and a lightly browned top crust, remove from the pizza oven.

Double check to make sure the center of the homemade breadsticks are fully cooked.  While the breadsticks are still hot, use a griddle spatula to help the crust release from the pan.

How to Cut the Blackstone Breadsticks

DO NOT CUT IN THE CAST IRON PAN OR THE DETROIT-STYLE PIZZA PAN!!

Place the Blackstone Pizza Hut Breadsticks on a cutting board to cut into pieces.  Use a pizza rocker, kitchen knife, or pizza cutter to cut the breadsticks.

How to Store Leftover Breadsticks

Store leftover breadsticks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.  Breadsticks are great eaten cold right from the fridge or reheat.

How to Reheat Pizza Hut Breadsticks

Reheating leftover breadsticks are easy using one of the following methods.  Reheat in the Blackstone pizza oven, air fryer, kitchen oven, or microwave.

The air fryer method is quick, easy, and helps keep the crispiness of the delicious breadsticks.
