Tips for Making a Great Griddle Charcuterie Board

  • Creating a stunning and delicious charcuterie board is an art that combines a variety of flavors, textures, and colors.  Whether you are preparing it for a casual get-together or a special occasion, here are some tips to help you make a great griddle board that will impress your guests.  Choose a variety of griddle recipes.  Think about the different colors, textures, and flavors that you can add to the board.
  • Do plan ahead!  Don’t wait until the last minute to decide on your menu because you will tend to forget ingredients or not have your board the way you want it.
  • Do customize your board to the recipes that your guests will enjoy.  You know your guests, so if they prefer healthy recipes, make a healthy charcuterie board.
  • Don’t make the griddle recipes too far ahead of time.  There is nothing worse than cold griddle food!
  • Pay attention to presentation.  Create visual interest by varying the shapes and sizes of your ingredients, using small ramekins or dishes.
  • Consider dietary preferences that include options for guests with dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free crackers, dairy-free cheeses, or vegetarian selections.
  • Label the different components of your board to help guests easily identify their choices and you won’t have to stand next to the board explaining what each recipe is.
  • Garnish for aesthetic appeal by using fresh herbs like parsley, basil, rosemary, and thyme.  Edible flowers or small clusters of fresh fruits can serve as beautiful garnishes.
  • Keep it seasonal by incorporating seasonal produce and flavors to keep your charcuterie board relevant and fresh.  In the fall, include items like toasted pumpkin seeds and apple slices with a warm dip.  In the summer, focus on fresh vegetables and griddle recipes with fresh ingredients.

How to Make an Appetizer Charcuterie Board

Make a Plan:  Choose the items that you want to display on your charcuterie board.  Then, decide on how you are going to cook all the items needed.  What are you going to cook first?  What are you going to cook last?  Can you prep up certain recipes up ahead of time?

Gather all Ingredients:  Make a list of all the ingredients needed for each recipe.  Double check that list to make sure you have all the supporting items for the recipes such as chips and dipping sauces.  Pick the right size board to serve your griddle appetizers on.

Prep Each Recipe:  Prepare each recipe and put on a baking sheet pan.  Each recipe should be on a different pan so that you can keep things organized and jump from one task to another.  Make sure to set aside the serving dishes that you need for each recipe.

Cook the Recipes:  When you are ready to serve your charcuterie board, preheat the griddle and start griddle cooking.  Start with the recipe that will hold the best, which would be the chicken wings.  End with the recipe that is quick cooking and should be eaten right away such as the griddle shrimp.

Assemble the Charcuterie Board

Prepare the Charcuterie Board:  Once all the food has been cooked, it’s time to assemble the charcuterie board.  Gather an assortment of different bowls and serving spoons.

Assemble:  Place the pan of Queso dip onto the center of the board.  Arrange individual bowls of the cooked wings, shrimp, and smashed potatoes around the Queso dip leaving some space between each bowl.  Add the dipping sauces for the wings in small bowls and place on the charcuterie board.  Fill in the holes of the board with the tortilla chips.

Serve Right Away:  Make sure to serve the griddle appetizer charcuterie board right away while the food is still hot.  Serve with plates, napkins, and silverware.

Appetizer Charcuterie Board Ideas

Creating an appetizer charcuterie board allows you to be creative and tailor it to your preferences.  Here are some additional ideas to enhance your board.

Griddle Vegetables:  Add some color and variety with griddle cooked asparagus, bell peppers, zucchini, and mushrooms.

Crostini: Toast a sliced baguette bread on both sides and top with your favorite toppings.

Non-Griddle Foods:  Incorporate non-griddle foods to add a little variety.  Include a variety of cheeses, cold cuts, fresh fruits, crackers, and fresh vegetables.

Mini Sandwiches:  Small burgers, pulled pork sliders, or deli sliders can add a hearty element.

Hot Dips:  Hot dips are a big crowd pleaser so add more than one if you want.  Serve with slices of bread or toasted pita chips.
