Easy White Queso Dip Recipe

White Queso Dip Recipe is a restaurant style cheese dip that is served with tortilla chips.  A 5-ingredient white cheese dip made with Velveeta Queso Blanco will become your new favorite appetizer recipe.

What Kind of Cheese Should I Use for Queso?

This creamy white queso dip is made with a mild white Velveeta queso Blanco cheese for easy melting and a fuss free appetizer.  Check your local grocery store for the Velveeta two-pound white American cheese blocks.

You can add a white American cheese when making this easy queso dip recipe, but I recommend a white Velveeta brand. Add any extra shredded cheese such as pepper jack or Monterey Jack for an extra bit of flavor to your Mexican cheese dip.  Just make sure to add a real quality cheese.

How to Make Queso Dip from Scratch

This scratch queso dip version is prepared on top of a Blackstone griddle but can be easily made in several different ways.  Blackstone Products has a wide variety of griddle sizes for you to choose. The trick with this cheese dip recipe is to combine all the ingredients and let everything slowly melt together.  

Do not heat too quickly or at too high of a temperature or else you will burn the mixture. Make white queso dip with green chiles or substitute with one half can of Rotel diced tomato and green chiles.

How to Make White Queso

Cut the Velveeta cheese into small pieces using a sharp knife.

Blackstone Griddle White Queso Dip

Preheat the Blackstone Griddle on medium heat.  Place all ingredients of the creamy white queso dip recipe into a medium sized metal bowl or an all-metal saucepan.

Set the metal bowl or saucepan with the queso ingredients on to the preheated flat top griddle.  With a silicone spatula, gently stir all ingredients every couple of minutes to combine.  

Once the cheese is smooth and creamy, pour into your favorite serving dish such as a cast iron pan along with your favorite tortilla chips.

Slow Cooker Queso Dip 

Place the diced white Velveeta Queso Blanco cheese along with the milk, taco seasoning, diced green chilies, and the butter into the slow cooker or crock pot.  Turn on low heat and let the cheese start to melt.  

With a silicone spatula, stir to combine all the ingredients until smooth and creamy.  Continue to heat up and stir periodically to make a smooth cheese dip.  

Make sure to scrape the sides of the cooker to prevent burning.  Melting time will vary depending on the slow cooker or crockpot. 

Once all the cheese is melted turn to the warming or the lowest temperature setting possible.  

Queso Dip Variations

This recipe for White Queso Dip can be transformed into several different white queso dip recipes by switching up some of the ingredients.  Here are some ideas for you to choose from: 

  • Swap the milk for evaporated milk or heavy cream for a creamier dip
  • Make a meaty queso dip by adding cooked crumbled ground beef
  • Add some fresh pico de Gallo, black beans, or even diced tomatoes
  • Use crumbled bacon, and make a bacon queso dip
  • Swap out the taco seasoning for chili powder, garlic powder or your favorite seasonings, just make sure to not add too much chili powder because it is very flavorful.

How to Store Queso Blanco

Store any leftover Queso Blanco Dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.  Reheat in the microwave or a saucepan on the stove.

Ingredients

  • Velveeta Queso Blanco Cheese. 32 oz (907 g)
  • Milk 1 cup (8.5 oz) (243 g)
  • Green Chilies, Diced - Undrained 4 oz (113 g)
  • Butter 2 tablespoons (1 oz) (30 g)
  • Taco Seasoning 1 teaspoon (0.05 oz) (2 g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Blackstone Griddle on Medium Heat.
  2. Dice the Velveeta White Queso Cheese into small pieces and place into a medium sized metal stainless steel bowl.
  3. Add the milk, green chilies that are diced and undrained, butter and taco seasoning to the diced cheese.
  4. Place the metal bowl onto the flat top griddle.
  5. With a silicone spatula, stir all the ingredients together.
  6. Stir all the ingredients every couple minutes until the cheese is all melted.
  7. Place the white queso dip recipe into a serving dish or warmed cast iron pan. Serve the white cheese dip with tortilla chips, soft pretzels, pita chips, or pour over your favorite tacos and burritos.

  • Tips:
  • Do not over heat your cheese when melting.
  • Make in the Slow Cooker, in a pon on the stove, microwave, or crockpot by placing all ingredients into the appropriate bowl or pan and turning on low. Stir often to prevent burning. Heat until just melted and serve immediately.
  • Add or substitute a variety of ingredients to change the flavor of the queso by adding bacon bits, cooked ground burger, diced tomatoes with chilies, swap the seasonings, or cream.
