Tell me the difference between a wet burrito and an enchilada?

Even though wet burritos and enchiladas both use enchiladas sauce, the two are very distinct. Check out my traditional wet burrito recipe.

Wet burritos are topped with less red enchilada sauce than a traditional enchilada. Topped with a mound of shredded Colby cheese, and quickly microwaved or broiled to melt the cheese and warm up the inside.

When making enchiladas, enchilada sauce is smothered over the burritos. Lined up in a large pan and then generously topped with the cheese, and then baked several minutes till the cheese melts.

Wet Burritos don’t soak up the enchilada sauce compared to enchiladas.  Traditional enchiladas have several servings in one pan. Served family style.  Wet burritos are made in single serving sizes. On a hot plate and served to the individual person.

Ingredients Needed

Many of the things that make burritos great are in the ingredients. Second-rate flour tortillas produce dry burritos.

Pulled Pork Burrito Ingredients

Assemble the burrito on a heat proof plate or baking sheet.  Use a large flour tortilla and place the warm pork in the center.

The burrito size is going to depend on how much filling ingredients you use. With one hand on each side of the tortilla, fold the left side in to the center.

Next, take your right hand and fold the tortilla snuggly into the center overtop of the fold that you just made.  Hold the folds with the right hand.

Turn the plate a little bit making sure to keep holding the fold securely.  With the left hand, grab the third unfolded side and fold it in toward the center.  Hold the fold with the left hand.

With the right hand, fold the fourth side in and leave your hand on the top.  Carefully, flip the burrito over so that you have a smooth top, and the burritos seam side is down.

Fold in the ends and flip over your burrito.

Pour the red enchilada sauce over top of the folded burrito.  Sprinkle with a generous amount of shredded cheese.

Melt the cheese and heat the wet burrito all the way through by placing under the oven broiler or popping it in the microwave.  Garnish the wet burrito.

Use a dollop of sour cream, shredded lettuce, salsa, or slices of black olives.

  1. These burritos are delicious! I wasn’t sure how well the pork would work in a burrito, but it was great. The flavors were all really well balanced and the pork was cooked perfectly. The burritos were also really easy to make. I will definitely be making these again.
