Making Steeped Tea

Steeped tea is extracting the flavor out of the watered soaked tea bags.  Measure out two cups of warm water and place in a container.

Unwrap three tea bags from their paper wrapper.  Add the 3 tea bags to the water with the string tabs over the edge of the container.

Let the 3 tea bags sit for several minutes to an hour and occasionally bounce them up and down in the water to extract as much of the tea flavor into the water as possible.

This flavored water is referred to as steeped tea.  And will be poured into the pineapple slush recipe.

How to Make Pineapple Slush

Gather all the ingredients to make your pineapple slush recipe.  Using a large container, add all the ingredients except the soda.

Making sure to add the prepared steeped tea water.  Carefully, stir to combine all together and to dissolve the sugar.

How to Freeze the Pineapple Slushie

The next step is to freeze the boozy slush mixture.  Make sure to allow for expansion in the freezer containers.

You can either freeze one large freezable container or divide the pineapple slush into several freezer containers.  I like to divide this pineapple slush recipe into 5-quart containers.

When it is split into smaller containers, the slush will freeze better and faster.

TIP: The vodka and whiskey tends to settle to the bottom.  Make sure to stir the pineapple drink mixture before splitting it into smaller containers.

After you have the pineapple slush with alcohol mixture in freezable containers, label, and date each one.

Next, place the containers in the freezer and allow to freeze for at least 24 hours.  Frozen pineapple slush will hold in the freezer for up to one year.

How to Serve Pineapple Slush

To serve the pineapple slushie, gather the frozen mixture, your favorite grapefruit soda or lemon lime soda, and any garnishes that you want.

DO NOT MIX A LARGE BATCH OF SLUSH UP AT A TIME.  THIS IS A SINGLE SERVING FROZEN PINEAPPLE COCKTAIL!

You want the pineapple slush to be served with frozen slushy pieces in it, not just a liquid drink.  Only make and serve single glasses of the pineapple slush.

Do not remove the slushie frozen mixture from the freezer until you are ready to serve the whiskey slush cocktail.

Use the glassware of your choice.  Sugar the rim, if desired.  Do this before adding any of the boozy slush mixture.

In the glass, add about 1/3rd of the pineapple slush mixture and top off with 2/3rds of the soda pop.

TIP: When the pineapple slushie mixture is frozen, the bottom of the container has more alcohol than the top slushie mixture.  Take scoops from the top and the bottom of the frozen container!

Use a spoon to gently stir all the frozen pineapple cocktail together.  Serve immediately with your favorite drink garnish and straw.

Pineapple Slush Garnishes

  • Lemon, Lime, and Orange Wedges
  • Sugared Glass Rim
  • Dried Fruit Slices, Orange, Lemon, Lime, or Pineapple
  • Fresh Pineapple Triangles, Frozen Pineapple Chunks, Fresh Pineapple Chunks, or any fresh fruit

How to Store Pineapple Slushies

Store the frozen pineapple slush mixture in the freezer for up to 12 months.  Do not mix in the soda and then freeze the cocktail.

You will lose the soda fizz.  The soda pop is only used when you are ready to serve the frozen pineapple cocktail.

Whiskey Pineapple Slushy Substitutions

Don’t like the whiskey and vodka alcohol combination.  That’s okay!  Add all whiskey or all vodka.  Or swap out the whiskey and vodka for some different kinds of alcohol like coconut rum, pineapple rum, dark rum, banana liqueur, Malibu rum, and white rum.  Just add equal parts of the alcohol to the slushy mixture.

Add different types of diced or mashed fruit before freezing or add the fruit in before serving.

Swap out the soda for a fruit juice such as cranberry juice, coconut milk, apple juice, coconut water, or canned pineapple juice.

Add a splash of grenadine or maraschino cherry juice to the whiskey slush as a garnish.

What to Serve with This Frozen Pineapple Cocktail

I like to serve this pineapple slush with a great meat and cheese charcuterie board, a great slab of smoked BBQ baby back ribs, a smashed burger tower, or Blackstone Pizza Oven pepperoni pizza.

This chicken street tacos, slow cooker chicken enchiladas, and sheet pan nachos would also be the perfect meal to serve with this frozen cocktail recipe.
