Whiskey Slush Ingredients

This whiskey slush recipe does have a few ingredients to make but it is well worth it!  A great cocktail to have in the freezer for those unexpected guests.

  • Frozen Orange Juice concentrate
  • Frozen Lemonade concentrate
  • Sugar, granulated
  • Water
  • Vodka
  • Whiskey
  • Tea bags
  • Grapefruit Soda

How to Make Steeped Tea

When making steeped tea it means to soak tea in water so as to extract its flavor.  Measure out two cups water and place in a container.

Take three tea bags out of their paper wrapper.  Hang the tea bags in the water with the string tabs over the edge of the container.

Let the tea bags sit for several minutes to an hour and occasionally bounce the bags up and down in the water to extract as much of the tea flavor into the water as possible.

This water is referred to as steeped tea.  You will pour the steeped tea water into the whiskey slush mixture.

How to Make Whiskey Slush

Gather all the ingredients to make your whiskey slush recipe.  Using a large container, add all the drink ingredients.

Make sure to add the steeped tea water.  Stir to combine all together and to dissolve the sugar.

How to Freeze the Alcohol Slushy

The next step is to freeze the slush mixture.  Allow for expansion in the freezer container.  You can either freeze one large container or divide the whiskey slush into several freezer containers.

I like to divide this drink recipe into 5-quart containers.  When it is split into smaller containers, the slush will freeze better.

TIP: The alcohol tends to settle to the bottom.  Make sure to stir the liquid drink mixture before splitting it into smaller containers.

After you have the whiskey drink mixture in freezable containers, label, and date each one.  Place in the freezer and allow to freeze for at least 24 hours.

Frozen whiskey slush will hold in the freezer for up to 6 months.

How to Add a Sugar Rim to a Cocktail

Use your desired glassware. If doing a sugared rim, do it before adding any of the drink mixture.

Use granulated sugar or your favorite sugar. Add a mound of the sugar to a small plate.

Take a lemon or lime wedge and place it on the glass rim. Then swirl the citrus wedge around the top of the rim to completely moisten the top of the glass.

Quickly, dip the moistened glass rim in the mound of sugar. The sugar should stick to the rim of the glass.

How to Serve Whiskey Slush

To serve the whiskey slush, gather the frozen slushie mixture from the freezer, your favorite lemon lime soda or grapefruit soda, and any garnishes that you want.

DO NOT MIX UP A LARGE BATCH AT A TIME.  THIS IS A SINGLE SERVING COCKTAIL!

You want the whiskey slush to be served with frozen slushy pieces in it, not just a liquid drink.  Only make and serve single serving glasses of the whiskey slush.

Do not remove the slushie mixture from the freezer until you are ready to serve the whiskey slush cocktail.  In the glass, add about 1/3rd of the whiskey slush mixture and top off with 2/3rds of the soda pop.

TIP: When the drink mixture has frozen, the bottom of the container has more alcohol than the top slushie mixture.  Take scoops from the top and the bottom!

Use a spoon to gently stir all together.  Serve right away with your favorite garnish and straw.

How to Store Whiskey Slushies

Store the frozen whiskey slush mixture in the freezer for up to 12 months.  Do not mix in the soda and then freeze.

You will lose the soda pop fizz.  The soda pop is only used when you are ready to serve the cocktail.

Whiskey Slushy Substitutions

  • Don’t like the whiskey and vodka combination.  That’s okay!  Add all whiskey or all vodka.  Or swap out the whiskey and vodka for something completely different.  Just add equal parts of the alcohol.
  • Add diced or mashed fruit of your choice before freezing or add the fruit in before serving.
  • Swap out the soda pop for a fruit juice such as cranberry juice or pineapple juice.
  • Add a splash of maraschino cherry juice to the whiskey slush as a garnish.

  1. Is there anything more summery than an alcohol slush? I don’t think so! This looks refreshing and easy to make.
