Whiskey Cherry Slush Ingredients

This cherry whiskey slushie recipe is a great cherry flavor drink to have in the freezer for whenever you want to party!  My family knows that when they stop by, I will always have a whiskey slush waiting for them if they want it.

  • Frozen Orange Juice concentrate
  • Frozen Lemonade concentrate
  • Sugar, granulated
  • Water
  • Vodka
  • Whiskey
  • Tea bags
  • Grapefruit Soda
  • Cherry Concentrate – Substitute Maraschino Cherry Juice

Cherry Concentrate

This is an important part of the cherry slushie. Being a chef in western Michigan, I like to use cherries in my recipes.

Cherry concentrate is plentiful in Michigan and pairs well with the drink. Remember that a little bit goes a long way. Don’t add to much!

This cherry concentrate is also good for joint pain, so drink up!

Prepare the Steeped Tea

To prepare the steeped tea, add two cups of water along with three tea bags (any flavor that you like) and letting them soak.  Bounce the tea bags up and down in the water several times to help extract the tea flavor into the water.

The longer the tea steeps, the better flavor you will have.  Discard the tea bags before pouring into the slushie mixture.

But before you do, squeeze the tea bags to extract as much flavor as you can.

How to Make a Cherry Slushie with Whiskey

Gather all the ingredients to make your whiskey cherry slush recipe.  Using a gallon pitcher or jar, add all the slush ingredients except the grapefruit soda and the cherry concentrate.

Remember to add the steeped tea water to the mixture.  Dissolve the sugar by stirring all the ingredients in the gallon pitcher.

How to Freeze the Cherry Whiskey Slushy

To make the slushie mixture, you need to freeze the liquid for at least 24 hours in small containers.  Use 5-quart freezable containers to split the slushie liquid into.

Label and date each of the freezable containers.  Place the containers in a single layer in the freezer.

After freezing the slushie for at least 24 hours, the quart containers will have harder ice crystals on the top and the bottom will be a little more liquidy from the alcohol settling.

How to Serve Cherry Slush with Whiskey

To serve the whiskey cherry slush, gather the frozen whiskey slushie mixture from the freezer, your favorite lemon lime soda or grapefruit soda, cherry concentrate, and any garnishes that you want.

Prepare one glass at a time by choosing your favorite glassware.  I like a stem glass when making this cocktail. With a spoon, add a couple scoops of the frozen whiskey slush to the bottom of the glass.

The alcohol tends to settle to the bottom of the freezer container, so make sure to take a scoop from the bottom.  Top the frozen slushy mixture with your desired soda making sure to leave room for the cherry concentrate.

Gently mix with a spoon to help break up the frozen chunks.  Pour the cherry concentrate into the whiskey sour slushie and watch the magic happen!

The cherry concentrate will swirl around in the glass as you pour.  If desired, stir to combine all the ingredients.  Taste and adjust the cocktail if needed.

Craving more of that whiskey kick?  Pour in a bit more of the slushie.  Add a straw, garnish, and serve the cherry slushie right away.

Garnish with a maraschino cherry, fresh cherries, or drop frozen cherries into the drinks. Sip and savor this amazing adult cocktail by letting the array of flavors dance on your palate.

The coolness of the slushie along with the tartness of the cherry juice and the kick of the whiskey and vodka blend together in a symphony of taste.

How to Keep the Slushie – Slushie!

Are you struggling to keep the cherry whiskey slushie frozen?  Use in insulated mug!  An insulated mug will keep a slushy frozen for hours.

Prepare as you normally would but swap out the glassware for the insulated mug.  Insulated cups are perfect for summertime hot days.

Cherry Whiskey Slush – FAQ

Can I use any type of whiskey?

Yes, the choice of whiskey is completely up to you.  Whether you prefer the smokiness of a Scotch, the smoothness of a bourbon (creates an amazing cherry bourbon slush), or the spiciness of a rye whiskey, any whiskey can be incorporated into your slushie.

Can I use other fruits in this recipe?

Absolutely!  Smash fresh fruits like strawberries, peaches, blueberries, or even mixed berries to create your own twist on the whiskey slush.  You can even experiment with fruit concentrates.

Can I make the slushie ahead of time?

While the freshest taste is achieved when consumed immediately, you can prepare the slushie in an insulated cup and store in the freezer for a short while before serving.  Just remember to give it a quick stir before enjoying.

Ingredients

  • Orange Juice, frozen concentrate 12 ounces
  • Lemonade, frozen concentrate 12 ounces
  • Sugar, granulated 2 cups
  • Water, Divided 9 cups

  • Tea bags 3 each

  • Cherry Concentrate 16 ounces

Instructions

Making Whiskey Cherry Slush Recipe

  1. Steeped the tea bags by soaking the tea in warm water to extract as much of the tea flavor as you can.  Make sure to do this first thing before mixing the whiskey slush ingredients together.
  2. In large gallon pitcher or jar, add the frozen lemonade and orange juice concentrate along with the water, sugar, whiskey, vodka, and steeped tea.  With a long spoon, stir all the liquid slush mix ingredients together until all the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Divide the liquid mixture into 5 – quart containers.  Make sure to stir the slush mixture well before splitting into the quart containers to help mix the alcohol.  Seal, label, date, and place the liquid mixture into the freezer for at least 24 hours before making the cherry slushie.

How to Make Cherry Slushy with Whiskey

  1. To serve the cherry slushy, gather the frozen slush mixture, your favorite grapefruit soda pop or lemon lime soda, the cherry concentrate, and any garnishes that you want.
  2. MAKE SURE NOT TO MIX A LARGE BATCH OF CHERRY SLUSHIE UP AT A TIME.  THIS IS A SINGLE SERVING FROZEN WHISKEY CHERRY COCKTAIL!  You want the cherry slushie with whiskey to be served with frozen slushie pieces in it, not just a liquid drink.  Only make and serve single glasses of the cherry slush.  Do not remove the whiskey slush frozen mixture from the freezer until you are ready to serve the cherry cocktail.
  3. Use the glassware of your choice to serve the cherry whiskey cocktail. In the glass, add about 2/3rd of the frozen whiskey slushy mixture, 1/3rd of the soda pop, and about 2 tablespoons of the cherry concentrate.  Stir to break up the ice crystals.
  4. TIP: When the slush mixture with whiskey is frozen, the bottom of the freezer container has more alcohol than the top.  Take some from the top and the bottom.
  5. Serve right away with your favorite cherry garnish such as fresh cherries, maraschino cherries, or frozen cherries.
