Griddle Temperature for Ham and Cheese Omelette

Preheat your griddle on medium/low to medium.  If you have the temperature to high, your omelette will turn brown and become over cooked.  You don’t want your temperature too low because it will take too long to cook.

Omelette Ring for Griddle

Do you have an omelette ring?  You can use it now.

Place your desired thin layer of grease on the griddle.  I have used cooking spray, butter, bacon grease and olive oil.  Just make sure to spread it out and it’s large enough for the omelette to cook.

Pour the whipped eggs onto the greased hot griddle.  The eggs should be in a round 6-inch circle.

If the eggs start to run on the griddle, use your spatula and bring it back to a circle shape.  When it stops running, add the cooked ham and mushrooms to the top and spread evenly around the circle.

Cook the omelette about 2 minutes on each side.  But cooking times will vary.

You need to cook the omelette by how it looks because every griddle will vary in temperature.  When the ham and mushroom omelette is cooked on the one side, it’s time to flip.

With a large spatula, carefully flip the omelette over.  Add a layer of shredded cheese to one half of the omelette.

Once the mushroom, ham and cheese omelettes are cooked, flip in half so the non-cheese side is over onto the melted cheese.  Top with the remaining shredded cheese and remove from the griddle.  Serve hot with your favorite sides.

Fluffy omelettes can be achieved in several different way.  Make what is known as souffle omelettes by separating the egg yolk and whites.  Beat the egg whites until a soft peak forms.  Carefully fold in the egg yolks and make your omelette as normal.  Another way to make fluffy omelettes is to add one or two tablespoons of milk or heavy cream to the eggs when they are whipped.  Then continue to make the omelette as normal.
