What is Monkey Bread?

Monkey bread is pull apart pieces of dough that is eaten with your fingers.  It can be made in a variety of different flavors from savory to sweet.  Monkey bread gets its name from the similarities of how monkey’s groom each other by picking and eating what they picked.  Kind of gross, ha!!

How to Make Monkey Bread Without a Bundt Pan

I usually make monkey bread in a Bundt pan.  You can make this biscuit monkey bread in any baking pan like a loaf pan, a cake pan, muffin pan, etc.…

Just make sure that the layer of cut biscuits are all even so that everything bakes properly.

How to Make Monkey Bread

Gather all your ingredients to make your biscuit monkey bread.  Spray your pan with cooking spray.

Monkey Bread Ingredients - Biscuits, cinnamon, sugar, and butter.

Preheat your Blackstone Griddle to the lowest setting.  Open the can of biscuits and pull each one apart.  Cut each biscuit round into 8 triangle pieces on a cutting board.

Mix the cinnamon and sugar together in a medium bowl.  Take a few of the triangle pieces and completely coat them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Toss the coated biscuit pieces into the greased baking pan.  You will do this until all the biscuits have been coated in the cinnamon sugar and placed into the pan.

I have tested different methods of baking on a Blackstone Griddle, and this is how I prefer to cook my monkey bread with canned biscuits.

How to Cook Blackstone Griddle Monkey Bread

On a preheated griddle, place a sheet of parchment paper.  The reason I do the parchment paper under the rack is because the Blackstone Griddle will naturally smoke, and you do not want your monkey bread recipe to have a griddle smoky flavor.

Place a baking rack on top of the parchment paper to help lift the pan off the griddle to help prevent burning on the bottom. Next, put the pan of monkey bread with biscuits on to the rack.

Cover everything with a dome lid.  Let the Blackstone Griddle monkey bread with biscuits bake for about 50 minutes.

Check to see how they are doing.  If you need to cook the monkey bread more, turn the griddle to medium and cook until the monkey bread is fluffy and flaking apart.

Monkey Bread Topping

If you would like to add a little bit of icing to the top for your griddle monkey bread, then make a cream cheese icing. Combine about 2 – 4 ounces of softened cream cheese to a bowl.

Cream Cheese Icing for monkey bread.

Add about 2 tablespoons of softened butter and combine until smooth. Next, add about 1 cup of powdered sugar and a splash of milk to the cream cheese mixture. Stir to combine.

If needed, add more powdered sugar or milk until you get the consistency that you want. Place the icing into a ziplock bag.
