Chicken and Shrimp Stir Fry

Chicken and Shrimp Stir Fry is a classic dish that never fails to impress.  My stir fry recipe is loved for its vibrant flavors, versatility, and quick cooking times. 

Made in 30 minutes with my special homemade stir fry sauce.  Which makes this a great meal for busy weeknights or a leisurely dinner for a crowd. 

Chicken and Shrimp Stir Fry on the Blackstone Griddle

Preparing this shrimp and chicken stir fry on a Blackstone Griddle makes for a quick meal with easy clean up afterwards.  The large surface area of the griddle also makes it easy to spread out the ingredients in a single layer, ensuring they cook evenly and develop a great stir fry flavor.

Stir Fry Tips

Make a vegetarian version of this stir fry recipe by leaving out the chicken and the shrimp.  You can also swap out the proteins in the recipe for other types of meats. 

If you can’t have soy sauce, that’s okay.  Use a soy sauce substitute such as coconut aminos or tamari. 

Don’t have a Blackstone Griddle?  Use a large saucepan on the stove and cook the meats and then store on the side until after the vegetables are cooked.  Combine all together and add the stir fry sauce and cook until thickened. 

If the stir fry is too thick, add a splash of water.  If the stir fry is too soupy, make a slurry of corn starch and cold water, add to the stir fry, and cook a little longer. 

You can substitute chicken breasts for chicken thighs.

  • Chicken Breast, Skinless, Boneless
  • Shrimp, Raw
  • Garlic, Minced
  • Oil
  • Vegetables, Fresh or Frozen, Assortment
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Stir Fry Sauce
  • Honey
  • Soy Sauce
  • Water
  • Cornstarch
  • Water, Cold
  • Cooked White Long Grain Rice

How to Make Chicken and Shrimp Stir Fry

Prep the Ingredients:  Clean and chop the vegetables of your choice into bite sized pieces.  If desired, you can use frozen stir fry vegetables.  Cut the chicken breast into small pieces.  Make sure the shrimp you are using are peeled and deveined. 

Heat the Griddle:  Preheat your Blackstone Griddle over medium heat.  If using an electric griddle, set the temperature to 400°F.

Stir Fry Sauce:  Prepare the stir fry sauce by measuring the honey, soy sauce, and water in a bowl and mix to combine.  Combine the corn starch and water together.  Add the corn starch water to the rest of the sauce and stir to mix.  Set aside until ready to use.

Start Cooking:  Once the griddle is preheated, lightly grease the flat top with your favorite oil.  Spread around with a griddle spatula.  Add all the vegetables to the griddle, toss to combine.  Squirt the vegetables with some water and cover with a dome lid, if needed. 

Cook the Chicken & Shrimp:  In another section of the griddle add the diced chicken breast.  Top with your favorite seasonings and let cook for 2-3 minutes.  Toss to combine and add the minced garlic.  Place the raw shrimp onto the greased griddle and season.  Cook until the shrimp turns pink.  Flip over to cook the other side.  Do not overcook the shrimp!  If needed remove and add back to the stir fry before the sauce is added. 

Combine Everything:  Mix the vegetables with the chicken and shrimp.  Stir the sauce to combine.  Pour the prepared stir fry sauce over all the ingredients.  Let cook for a couple minutes. 

Stir and Serve:  Toss the chicken and shrimp stir fry ingredients to help coat with the stir fry sauce.  Serve the stir fry recipe with prepared hot white long grain rice.  Check out how I make my special white rice recipe

Can I use frozen vegetables for this stir fry?

Yes, you can use frozen mixed vegetables if fresh ones are not available.  I like to have an extra bag of stir fry vegetables in the freezer for quick meal prep.  Do not thaw the vegetables.  Just place on the griddle when ready to cook.

Can I customize the stir fry sauce?

Absolutely!  Feel free to adjust the sauce ingredients to suit your taste.  You can use a low sodium soy sauce or a soy sauce substitute.  Add a splash of hot sauce for a spicy kick.

Ingredients

  • Chicken Breast, Skinless, Boneless 1 each
  • Shrimp, Raw 8 ounces
  • Garlic, Minced 1 teaspoon
  • Oil 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetables, Fresh or Frozen, Assortment 4 cups
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Pepper 1/2 teaspoon
  • Honey 1/4 cup
  • Soy Sauce 1/4 cup
  • Water 1/4 cup
  • Cornstarch 4 teaspoons
  • Water, Cold 1 tablespoon
  • Cooked White Rice

Instructions

  4. Start Sautéing:  Once the Blackstone griddle is preheated, lightly oil the flat top with your favorite oil.  Spread with a griddle spatula.  Add all the prepared vegetables to the griddle and toss to combine.  Squirt the vegetables with some water and cover with a dome lid. 
  5. Cook the Shrimp & Chicken:  In another part of the griddle add the diced chicken breast.  Top with your favorite salt and pepper and let cook for 2-3 minutes.  Add the minced garlic and toss to combing.  Place the prepared shrimp onto the greased griddle and season.  Cook until the shrimp turns pink on the one side.  Flip each shrimp over to cook the other side.  Do not overcook the shrimp pieces!
