Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies

These Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies have a variety of chocolate chips and Oreo pieces making them a triple chocolate cookie. I really love these incredibly delicious cookies!

These Oreo cookies resemble my homemade chocolate chip cookie very closely. I used Oreo crumbs and as well as semi-sweet chocolate chunks and chips.

This has an amazing Oreo-flavor with every bite. Creamy cookie batter with Oreos is like no other cookie. 

Oreo chocolate chip cookies are soft and chewy inside and provides perfect bites each time. This enormous cookie is packed with chocolate chips, chocolate chunks and Oreo chocolate sandwich cookie pieces.

I am sure you will love these Oreo chocolate chip cookies. It’s all about the cookie obsession! It is always nice to have big and chunky cookies to keep you happy.  

This recipe is inspired by the Nestle Toll House cookie recipe.  These chocolate chip Oreo cookies look similar to the traditional chewy chocolate chip cookies with the addition of Oreo pieces.

The Perfect Cookie Tips

  • Follow the recipe exactly as it is written.
  • Pull the butter from the refrigerator two to three hours ahead of baking and leave on the counter to soften. Use a softened butter – not cold butter and not melted.
  • It’s crucial that you obtain a perfect creamy cookie texture.
  • Cream the butter into the sugar until no lumps are visible and the sugar is not grainy. Typically, the process takes around 3 minutes on a stand mixer.
  • Scrape the side of the mixing bowl, scrape the side of the mixing bowl, etc… I can repeat myself over and over again. This is a step that most people forget and can ruin your whole batch of cookies.
  • The gluten-free flour and whole grain flour also work perfectly.
  • Use a cookie scoop for equal portioning of the cookie dough. It makes a round cookie of equal size.
  • Don’t over bake.
  • Parchment paper – Line the baking sheet pans with parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking to the pans.

How to Make Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies

Preheat your convection oven to 350°F.  Gather the ingredients to make your Oreo chocolate chip cookies. 

Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookie Ingredients: flour, sugar, brown sugar, butter, salt, baking soda, vanilla, eggs, chocolate chip & chunks, and Oreo pieces.

Add softened butter (either salted butter or unsalted butter works), sugar, and light brown sugar to a large mixing bowl of a Kitchen Aid Mixer fitted with a flat paddle on low speed.  Cream together until pail and fluffy. 

Then scrape the sides of the mixing bowl with a spatula.  Mix another minute. 

One egg at a time, add to the creamed mixture along with vanilla extract and mix until creamy and incorporated before adding the second egg.  Scrape the side of the mixing bowl again. 

Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt together. In three parts, add the flour to the creamed mixture.  After all the flour has been added, scrape the bowl again. 

Finally, add in the chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, and the Oreo pieces to the cookie dough.  If desired, reserve some of the chocolate and Oreo pieces to decorate the top of each cookie. 

How to Portion Cookie Dough

Portion cookie scoop is a must for measuring out perfect cookie dough every time.  This ensures that the cookies bake evenly and you don’t have over baked or under baked cookies. 

My two favorite portion scoopers are a #40 for an average sized cookie (3-inch) or a #20 for a larger cookie (4-inch). 

If you don’t have a scooper, you can use a couple spoons to scoop out the cookie dough. 

On a standard size cookie sheet, line the bottom with a piece of parchment paper.  You should be able to get 12 (3 x 4) #40 cookies on a baking pan and 8 – #20 cookies.

Topping The Chocolate Chips Cookies

This feature is optional, but helps in finishing the look! Add more Oreos and a chocolate chips/chunks pieces to the top of each cookie before they are baked.  This results in a more professional looking chocolate chip Oreo cookies.

How to Bake the Chocolate Chip Cookies with Oreo

You need to decide how you want your fully baked Chocolate Chip Cookies – Oreo.  Do you like a super chewy center for your cookie?  Nice and golden-brown?  Or are you a crispy cookie lover that likes to dunk in a hot cup of coffee or a cold glass of milk? 

After your oven has preheated to 350°F on the convection setting, place your portioned out cookie sheet pan on the oven rack and close the door.  Set the oven timer for 8 minutes. 

Do not keep opening the door as you will lose the heat and hot air that is circulating around the baking sheet. When the timer goes off, rotate the baking sheet. 

Evaluate the cookies and set the oven timer accordingly.  Oven temperatures will vary so please watch them carefully until the cookies have reached the desired doneness. 

You may have to bake them 2 to 4 minutes longer.  When the cookies are done baking, remove from the oven and let the cookies cool before moving.

Continue baking the rest of the cookies until all are fully baked.  Baking time will be 9 to 12 minutes depending on size and desired cookie doneness.   

How to Serve & Store

Serve Oreo chocolate chip cookies when they’re cold enough to handle. Best served with a cold glass of milk, a hot cup of coffee, or even a mug of hot chocolate.

Store any leftover cookies in airtight containers for up to 4 days at room temperature.

Freezing Oreos Chocolate Chip Cookies

We enjoy frozen fully baked cookies and eat them regularly. Store in a Ziplock bag or an airtight container. 

They will freeze well for at least three months.  Remove from the freezer and enjoy frozen or let them thaw and eat within a couple of days.

Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches

Make these into an ice cream sandwich! Add a scoop of ice cream between two fully baked Oreo chocolate chip cookies and sandwich together. 

Wrap each cookie ice cream sandwich in plastic wrap, place in a Ziplock freezer bag and store in the freezer until ready to eat.

Cookie Variations

  • Golden Oreos: substitute the chocolate Oreo cookie pieces with the golden cookies for vanilla lovers!
  • Chocolate chips – substitute white chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips for vanilla options.
  • Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies – Instead of using Oreo cookie pieces, use a whole Oreo and wrap it with a layer of cookie dough.
  • Mini chocolate chips – Swap out the chocolate chips for the mini versions.

Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies – FAQ

What makes cookies cakey or chewy?

What makes a cakey or chewy cookie can be a variety of different reasons.  The miss measurement of any of the cookie ingredients will affect how the finished product will turn out.  Using too big or too small of an egg.  Not scraping the sides of the mixing bowl during the many stages of making will result in a cakey or chewy cookie.  Adding all the eggs at one time will result in a curdled looking cookie batter instead of a smooth, creamy texture batter. 

Can I substitute baking powder for baking soda?

No!!  Your cookies will not turn out if you use baking powder.

What is the longest cookie life?

Cookies only stay fresh for a couple of days if sealed in an air tight container.  If you plan on having them longer than that, freeze and remove from the freezer a few minutes before serving.

  • Flour, All Purpose 2 1/4 cups
  • Baking Soda 1 teaspoon
  • Salt, Table 1 teaspoon
  • Butter, Softened 1 cup
  • Brown Sugar, Packed 3/4 cup
  • Sugar, Granulated 3/4 cup
  • Vanilla, Extract 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs, Large 2 each
  • Chocolate Chips, Semi-Sweet 1 1/4 cups
  • Chocolate Chunks, Semi-Sweet. 1 1/4 cups
  • Oreo, Pieces (8 Oreos) 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat your convection oven to 350°F. 
  2. Gather the ingredients to make your Oreo chocolate chip cookies. 
  3. Add softened butter (either salted or unsalted butter works), sugar, and light brown sugar to a large mixing bowl fitted with a flat paddle on low speed.
