Why Use the Blackstone Pizza Oven?

A question that I get asked frequently, “Can you cook cinnamon rolls in a pizza oven?”  And the answer is yes!

A Blackstone Pizza Oven is known for its quick, even heating which is perfect for baking everything from pizzas to cinnamon rolls.  It heats up fast and bakes these rolls in just 12 minutes, delivering a fluffy, golden-brown treat.

Using a cast iron pan ensures even cooking and gives the rolls that slightly crisp edge, while the inside remains soft and pillowy.

  • Flour – All Purpose
  • Water – Warm

  • Vegetable Oil
  • Salt

  • Brown Sugar
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Raisins
  • Powdered Sugar

Homemade Cinnamon Roll Dough

Prepare the Dough:  In a KitchenAid mixing bowl using a dough hook attachment add the sugar, oil, and warm water (100°F).  Stir the ingredients until the sugar is dissolved.  Combine the flour, salt, and yeast in another bowl with a whisk.  Gradually add the flour mixture to the mixing bowl with the yeast mixture.

Mix the Dough:  With the dough hook mix the ingredients on low to medium speed until the dough starts to form.  Be sure to scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl with a spatula, then continue mixing for an additional 2 minutes.

Prepare the Dough for Fermenting:  In a separate, extra-large bowl, lightly coat the inside with cooking spray.  Transfer the dough into the greased bowl making sure to scrape down any dough from the sides of the mixing bowl.  Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap, followed by a clean towel.

Ferment the Dough:  Place the bowl in a warm spot like a warm kitchen stove to help with fermentation.  Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down, cover back up, and let it rise a second time.  When it has doubled in size again, you are ready to start making the cinnamon rolls!

How to Prepare Homemade Cinnamon Raisin Rolls

Roll Out the Dough:  Once the cinnamon roll dough has risen twice, roll it out on a large, floured countertop into a large rectangle until it is about 1/4 inch thick.  If the sheet of dough keeps on bouncing back after it is rolled, let it rest for several minutes and continue rolling.

Add the Cinnamon Roll Filling:  Spread the melted butter across the sheet of dough in an even layer.  Generously sprinkle an even layer of the brown sugar over the top of the melted butter.  Sprinkle the ground cinnamon over the filling.  Spread the raisins across the filling and make sure they are not clumped up.

Roll Up and Slice:  Roll the dough tightly from the longer side to form a log.  Slice the log into 1 inch equal rolls.  Place the cinnamon rolls into a greased extra-large cast-iron pan or 2 medium sized greased pans.  Leave room between each cinnamon roll.  (You can also place the cinnamon rolls spread out on a sheet pan to create individual rolls)

Cover and Rise:  Cover the pan of rolls with a towel and set in a warm place.  Let the cinnamon rolls rise to double in size.

How to Bake Cinnamon Rolls in a Blackstone Pizza Oven

Preheat the Blackstone Pizza Oven:  Preheat your Blackstone Pizza Oven to 400°F.  Make sure not to go to much over the 400°F, otherwise you will burn the cinnamon rolls.

Bake the Cinnamon Rolls:  Place the cast iron pan of raised rolls into the hot pizza oven.  Bake for about 12 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are all golden brown and cooked through.  Test the center cinnamon roll for doneness.

Make the Icing:  While the cinnamon rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth and easy to drizzle.  If needed add more heavy whipping cream to thin out or more powdered sugar to stiffen up the icing.

Frost and Serve:  Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the Blackstone Pizza Oven, drizzle the icing over the top.  The cinnamon rolls are best served warm right out of the pizza oven but can be served at room temperature.

How to Make Cinnamon Raisin Rolls

  1. Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen twice, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. If the dough springs back, allow it to rest for a few minutes before continuing.
  2. Add the Filling: Spread melted butter evenly over the dough. Generously sprinkle brown sugar on top, followed by ground cinnamon. Scatter raisins evenly across the surface, ensuring they aren’t clumped.
  3. Roll and Slice: Roll the dough tightly from the long side, forming a log. Slice the log into 1-inch rolls. Place the rolls in a greased, extra-large cast-iron pan (or two medium-sized pans), leaving space between each roll. You can also space them out on a sheet pan for individual rolls.
  4. Cover and Rise: Cover the pan with a towel and allow the rolls to rise in a warm place until doubled in size.

Baking Cinnamon Rolls in the Blackstone Pizza Oven

  1. Preheat the Oven: Heat your Blackstone Pizza Oven to 400°F. Be cautious not to exceed this temperature, as the rolls may burn.
  2. Bake the Rolls: Place the cast-iron pan in the oven and bake for around 12 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through. Check the center roll to ensure it's fully baked.
  3. Make the Icing: While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla until smooth and drizzle-ready. Adjust the consistency by adding more cream or powdered sugar as needed.
  4. Frost and Serve: Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the icing over the top. These cinnamon raisin rolls are best enjoyed warm but can also be served at room temperature.
