Griddle Cheddar Biscuits

How to Make Cheddar Biscuits

Gather all ingredients to make your biscuits.  

Cheddar Biscuits Ingredient - Flour, baking powder, Simply Three seasoning, butter, shredded cheddar cheese, and milk.

Preheat the griddle to the lowest setting.  Remove any wind guards that you may have on your Blackstone Griddle.  

In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and the Northern Spice Company – Simple Three seasoning.  Don’t have Simple Three seasoning?  Then use 1 ½ teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of dried parsley flakes and 2 teaspoons of granulated garlic as a substitute.

With a grater over-top of the flour mixture, grate the frozen butter into the flour.

Stir to coat the butter with the flour mixture.  

Combine the grated butter into the flour mixture.

Next, add the shredded cheese and combine.

After that, carefully pour the milk into the flour mixture and incorporate all ingredients.

How to Cook Griddle Biscuits

On a preheated griddle, place a sheet of parchment paper.

With a # 20 scooper, scoop the biscuit dough onto the parchment paper.  

Cover the biscuits with a dome lid.

Cook for 10-15 minutes and then check for doneness.  Use a toothpick inserted into the drop biscuit to make sure it’s fully cooked.

If the biscuit is not fully cooked but the bottoms are golden brown, then flip the biscuits over and continue cooking with the dome lid.  When fully cooked, remove from the griddle.

Brush the biscuits with the garlic/parsley butter if desired.

Tips For Baking Biscuits on The Blackstone Griddle

  • Use the lowest burner setting.
  • Do not use wind guards.
  • Use parchment paper on top of the griddle.
  • Freeze individual biscuit dough balls to bake when needed.
  • If biscuits get to brown or burn on the bottom then bake on a cookie sheet and place on a wire rack, covering all with a dome lid.

Do Cheddar Biscuits Need to Be Refrigerated?

No, cheddar biscuits do not need to be refrigerated if you have leftovers.  Do you have a lot of leftover biscuits and want to keep them for several days?  I would suggest storing the biscuits in an airtight sealed container and keep in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.  

Which Cheese is Good for Biscuits?

Cheddar has a bold flavor which makes it good to use in this biscuit recipe.  I like cheddar jack cheese because that is what my family likes.  Any semi-hard or hard cheese will work for this recipe, so use what cheese you normally like to eat.   

How Do You Eat Cheddar Biscuits?

I like to eat griddle biscuits is directly off the griddle!!  I have provided a melted butter mixture to brush onto your griddle cheddar biscuits if desired.  Homemade chutneys or flavorful jellies would be a great compliment to these cheddar biscuits.  

What Foods Go Well with Cheddar Biscuits?

Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Flour, All Purpose 2 1/2 cups (11.8 oz) (335 g)
  • Baking Powder 1 tablespoons (0.4 oz) (12 g)
  • Simply Three Seasonings 1 1/2 tablespoons (0.4 oz) (12 g)
  • Butter, Frozen 1/2 cup (4 oz) (114 g)
  • Cheddar Cheese, Shredded 1 1/2 cup (5.4 oz) (153 g)
  • Milk 1 1/2 cup (13 oz) (369 g)

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients to make your biscuits.
  2. Preheat the griddle to the lowest setting. If using any wind guards on your griddle, please remove them any wind guards.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and the Northern Spice Company - Simple Three seasoning. Don’t have Simple Three seasoning? Then use 1 ½ teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of dried parsley flakes and 2 teaspoons of granulated garlic as a substitute.
  4. Using a grater over-top of the flour mixture, grate the frozen butter into the flour.
  5. With gloved hands, gently stir the butter into the flour mixture.
  6. Add the shredded cheese to the flour mixture and combine with gloved hands.
  7. Carefully pour the milk into the flour mixture and incorporate all ingredients.
    Cooking the Cheddar Biscuits
  8. When the griddle is preheated, place a sheet of parchment paper onto the flat-top.
  9. Use a # 20 portion scooper, measure the cheddar biscuit dough onto the parchment paper.
  10. Use a dome lid to cover the cheddar biscuits.
  11. Cook for 10-15 minutes and then check to see if they are done.
  12. Use a toothpick and insert into the center of the cheddar biscuit to make sure it’s fully cooked. If the toothpick comes out clean then the biscuit is done. If the toothpick comes out wet, then they need to be baked longer. If the biscuit is not fully cooked but the bottoms are golden brown, then flip the biscuits over and continue cooking with the dome lid.
  13. When fully cooked, remove from the griddle.
  14. If desired, brush the griddle cheddar biscuits with the garlic/parsley butter. Use 1/4 cup melted butter and add 1/8 teaspoon of minced garlic and 1/4 teaspoon fresh chopped parsley. Mix to combine. Use a pastry brush to spread on the tops of the biscuits.Don

Bake in the Oven

If you don't have a griddle to bake the biscuits on then you can use your oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Prepare as described above. Bake until biscuits are golden brown on the bottem and the biscuits test done.
