Get tips on the proper cooking surface as well as the perfect pizza crust. Start by making your pizza crust and then shaping the dough.

Then place the pizza sauce onto the dough, add a sprinkling of cheese, then your favorite toppings and finish off with a layer of cheese.  One of tricks to the perfect Blackstone pizza is using a pizza baking stones.

I don’t recommend directly cooking pizza on the flat top griddle. Create a pizza oven by using a dome lid over top your griddle pizza to generate enough heat to cook the top.

Using Homemade Pizza Dough on the Blackstone

Everyone has their favorite pizza crust recipe!  But if you are still looking, try my naan bread recipe which will make several dough balls.

But creating naan bread takes times. This naan bread crust can be made ahead of time if desired.

This recipe was made with a Delallo pizza dough kit which made two 10-inch pizzas.  Just add water to the pizza dough kit, mix and let rise.

If you don’t want to mess with homemade crust, then buy the pre-packaged pizza crust or naan/flat bread. They work just a good.

How to Make Pizza on Blackstone Griddle

Prepare all ingredients to make your pizza on the Blackstone. Dice your ingredients if needed.

Blackstone Griddle Pizza Ingredients, dough, sauce, shredded cheese, pepperoni, peppers, and mushrooms.

Once the dough is ready, preheat the Blackstone Griddle burners to medium high heat.  I recommend using a pizza stone.

Place the pizza stone onto the griddle when you start preheating it.  The stone should be heated nice and hot when you put the dough crust on it.

Back to the dough!

Start by flouring a clean, dry surface.  Portion the dough and make into a ball.

If a thin crust pizza is desired, then split the dough into 4 balls.  Want a thicker crust, divide the dough into 2 balls.

If mini pizzas are desired, then split the dough into 6 or 8 balls.  Place the dough ball onto the floured surface.

Use the tips of your fingers to push out the ball into a flat disk.  With a thin crust the dough should be ½ inch or less.  A thicker crust will have a ½ inch or more dough circle.

What Kind of Cheese Goes on Pizza?

A high quality shredded mozzarella is my cheese of choice.  But you can use any cheese that you desire.  Some like to use slices of a mozzarella ball.

Others choose to use a blend of different cheeses such as an Italian 6 cheese blend which is mozzarella, provolone, asiago, parmesan, Romano, and fontina.

How do you Make Pizza on a Blackstone griddle?

Carefully place the pressed-out pizza dough circle onto the hot pizza stone using a pizza peel.  The dough will start to cook as you place the pizza toppings on so make sure to work quickly.

Evenly apply a layer of your favorite pizza sauce to the top of the crust using a spoon.  This is my own pizza sauce recipe. Place a dollop of sauce on the top center and swirl evenly around with your spoon.

How to Cook a Pizza on Blackstone Griddle

Cooking pizza on a Blackstone Griddle is going to be different on every flat top griddle.  The heat cooking surface should be around 400°F.

Cook pizza time will vary.  The air flow under and around the griddle will affect your cooking time.  Using a preheated pizza stone is best.

I recommend using a dome lid to help trap the heat around the pizza to aid in the cheese melting and cooking the pizza all the way through.

A perfect pizza should develop a crispy golden-brown bottom crust, the cheese melted, and the flat top grill pizza heated all the way.

Once done, slide onto the pizza peel to lift and transfer to a serving dish. Or use a couple large griddle spatulas to remove the cooked pizza. Slice and serve hot.

How to Store Blackstone Pizza

Save leftover to reheat later. Completely cool leftover flat top grills pizza.

How to Reheat Blackstone Pizza

Reheat the griddle pizza on a preheated Blackstone griddle using a dome lid.  For a crisper crust, place the leftover pizza on a baking sheet and put into a preheated 425°F oven until the desired temperature is achieved.

Wanting a quick reheat option?  Place on a microwave safe plate and reheat for 30 to 60 seconds.
