Old Fashioned Goulash
Old Fashioned Goulash

As a kid growing up my mom would make this easy goulash as a quick throw together meal to feed all of my hungry brothers and their friends!  We always had family and friends around our table that my mother, Barbara Mackey, would make sure that everyone was well feed.  No one left my mom’s house hungry!!

Cooking in Cast-iron

After getting a set of cast-iron skillets as a Christmas gift, I searched threw my recipe book for the perfect recipe to make. There is no question that my goulash recipe came to mind.

Gather all of your ingredients to make this easy goulash dish.

I used my 12-inch cast iron skillet pan to make this recipe. Preheat cast iron pan in a 350-degree oven.

Start by boiling water and cook the macaroni till al dente.

In a large stock pot, brown the burger and onion. Drain any excess grease, then add the spaghetti sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, sugar, oregano, and the cooked macaroni. Stir to combine all ingredients.

Add half of the pasta ingredients to the heated skillet pan and level pasta in the bottom. Layer one cup of the mozzarella cheese on top of the hamburger goulash in the pan.  Next, place remaining pasta on top of the cheese layer and add remaining cheese on top.

Bake the cheesy goulash recipe for 1 to 1 ½ hours until pasta is bubbly, and cheese is browned.

Don’t have a cast iron skillet?

Look around your kitchen and see what you have that you can use as a baking dish. I would use a glass baking pan or casserole dish.

If you do not have a cast iron skillet pan then you can use a casserole pan instead.

You can use your favorite spaghetti sauce. Our family likes Prego!

Try using different pasta to dress up this dish!
