Don’t like blueberries?  Then just leave them out and add a few extra strawberries to make a strawberry smoothie!

I grew up on a 100 acre strawberry farm in western Michigan, so I love anything that has strawberries in it.  When my kids were growing up, I made them this healthy smoothie recipe all the time.

Blueberry and Strawberries

When summer fruit is at its best our family will pick, process, store and freeze several containers of strawberries and blueberries in pint and quart plastic see-thru containers. We pick all of our strawberries at Lutz’s Farms at their u-pick patch.

We have frozen whole strawberries on a sheet pan. After they are frozen, place them in gallon zip lock bags. This method works well if you plan on using them within a month or two.

Our family likes smoothies all year long so I choose the clean, smooch, store and freeze method.

How to Make a Smoothie

There are a couple of secrets to making the perfect smoothie.  I start with frozen fruit!  You can use fresh fruit but you need to freeze all of the berries first or else you will have a completely different tasting smothie.

Another secret is the Nutribullet Ultra Personal blender. Any blender will work but for making smoothies this blender is the best!!

Gather all of the ingredients to make your smoothie.

Smoothie Ingredients - Frozen Strawberries & Blueberries, Yogurt, Milk, Smoothie Mix and Sweetner

Start by layering your frozen fruit in the cup. Next add the milk and yogurt along with the sweetener.

Frozen strawberries and blueberries with yogurt, milk, smoothie mix and sweetener in blender cup.

Blend all together until smooth and completely combined. Add extra milk if needed.

This recipe is great with substituting different ingredients.  Try a tropical smoothie, all blueberry smoothie or just a strawberry smoothie recipe!

Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Tips

Don’t forget, the secret is to have your fruit frozen.  All of the fruit is frozen!  Add more or less milk to achieve your desired thickness.  This recipe does not have ice added to it that would water down the smoothie.

Another tip that we do when making our smoothies is to add Silk Milk and Silk yogurt because my daughter is sensitive to lactose, but any milk and yogurt will do.

The last tip that I have is to add about 1 tablespoon of strawberry smoothie mix.  We like Fresh Success Strawberry Smoothie mix. If you want a healthier version, you can omit the mix.
