A Folded Hash Brown Omelette on a Blackstone Griddle

Loaded Hash Brown Omelet Ingredients

What are loaded hash brown omelets made of?  Use potatoes, eggs, cheese, ham, or bacon, and whatever else you would like.  Make your omelet all your own.  Mix and match the ingredients to create endless possibilities.

  • Eggs
  • Heavy Cream
  • Vegetables – Bell Pepper, Onion, Mushroom, etc.
  • Breakfast Meat – Ham, Bacon, Sausage, Canadian Bacon, etc.
  • Shredded Potatoes
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Salt and Pepper
Bowls of Farm Fresh Eggs

Types of Shredded Potatoes

Not sure what type of shredded potatoes to use for your hash brown omelette?  Here are a few options that I like to use.  Each has their own qualities, just pick the one that fits you.

Frozen Shredded Potatoes:  If you have freezer space, it’s great to have an extra bag for when you need it.  Just watch the frozen ice crystals that form in the bag when you dump the potatoes in the hot oil.

Dried Shredded Potatoes:  Shelf stable potatoes that last a long time.  These potatoes need to be hydrated before using which needs extra time.

Homemade Shredded Potatoes:  There is nothing better than fresh homemade hash browns but requires whole potatoes to be boiled for a few minutes, then cooled.  After they are cooled, shred with a grater and cook as normal.

Store-Bought Shredded Potatoes:  This is my favorite option!  They are shredded fresh potatoes that are in the cooler section of your grocery store.  No need to boil and grate your own potatoes.

Blackstone Griddle

My choice of flat top griddle is a Blackstone Griddle. Pick from a gas griddle or an electric griddle. They come in various sizes, accessories, and options. How to Make a Hash Brown Omelette

Making a hash brown omelette is easier than you might think.  Follow these easy steps to create a delicious and nutritious breakfast.

Preheat the Flat Top Griddle:  Preheat your gas Blackstone griddle on medium/low to medium.  When using an electric Blackstone griddle, set the dial to 350°F.  If you have the griddle temperature to high, your omelet will burn and become over cooked.  You don’t want your griddle temperature too low because it will take too long to cook.

Gather Your Omelette Ingredients:  You’ll need eggs, shredded potatoes, vegetables such as bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms.  The meat of your choice such as sliced ham, cooked crumbled bacon, or sausage.  You will also want shredded Colby cheese, salt, pepper, and any additional toppings of your choice.

Prepare Your Ingredients:  Dice the vegetables into small chunks.  This helps to cook the vegetables quickly before making the omelette.

Griddle Cook the Shredded Potatoes:  Add a drizzle of oil to the hot griddle and spread around with your griddle spatula.  Place the shredded potatoes in a thin even layer and cook until golden brown.  Once cooked flip over to crisp up the other side.  Add a drizzle of oil over the top of the hash browns.

Hash Browns Cooking on a Blackstone Griddle

Sauté the Veggies and Meat:  While the shredded potatoes are cooking, add the diced vegetables and meat of your choice to another part of the griddle.  Sauté until desired doneness is achieved.  Top the crispy hash browns with the cooked meat and vegetables.

Add the Scrambled Eggs: In a separate bowl, combine together the eggs, a splash of heavy cream, salt, and pepper until well combined.  Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top, covering the entire surface of the hash browns, meat, and vegetables.

Cook Omelette:  The scrambled eggs will soak into the pile of ingredients.  Let the eggs cook.  If needed, use a dome lid to help the eggs cook.

Add the Cheese:  Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheese on top of the hash brown omelette.

Fold the Omelet:  When the eggs are fully cooked and the cheese is melted, fold the hash browns in half like an omelet.  Slide it onto a plate, garnish with some more shredded cheese, and serve hot.
