Farmers Omelet Ingredients

What are farmers omelets made of?  The good thing about an omelet is that you can make it all your own.  Here is a list of ingredients that you can use.

  • Eggs
  • Heavy Cream
  • Assortment of Vegetables – Bell Pepper, Onion, Mushroom, etc.
  • Breakfast Meat – Ham, Bacon, Sausage, Canadian Bacon, etc.
  • Shredded Hash browns
  • Shredded Cheese

Griddle Omelet Ring

I like to use a large egg ring to create a nice round omelet.  You can buy a griddle omelet ring, or you can use a circle ring such as a spring form pan ring without the bottom.

Blackstone Griddle

My choice of flat top griddle is a Blackstone Griddle. Pick from a gas griddle or an electric griddle. They come in various sizes, accessories, and options. How to Make a Farmers Omelette

Making a farmers omelette is easier than you might think.  Follow these simple steps to create a delicious and nutritious breakfast.

Preheat the Griddle:  Preheat your gas griddle on medium/low to medium.  When using an electric griddle, set the dial to 350°F.  If you have the temperature to high, your omelette will turn brown and become over cooked.  You don’t want your temperature too low because it will take too long to cook.

Gather Your Ingredients:  You’ll need eggs, shredded potatoes, vegetables of your choice such as bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms.  The meat of your choice such as diced ham, cooked bacon, or sausage.  You will also want shredded cheese, salt, pepper, and any additional toppings of your choice.

Prepare Your Ingredients:  Dice the vegetables into small pieces.  This helps them cook quickly before making the omelette.

Griddle Cook Potatoes:  Add a drizzle of oil to the preheated griddle and spread around.  Place the shredded potatoes in a thin layer and cook until golden brown.  Once crispy, flip over to crisp up the other side.

Cook the Veggies and Meat:  While the potatoes are cooking, add the diced vegetables and meat of your choice to another section of the griddle.  Cook until desired doneness is achieved.

Scramble the Eggs: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, a splash of heavy cream, salt, and pepper until well combined.  Grease another section of the griddle with cooking spray or oil. If using an egg ring, place it onto the griddle.  Slowly pour the egg mixture onto the greased griddle trying to keep them in a round shape.

Add the Toppings

Shape and Fill Your Omelette:  Use your griddle spatula to shape the rounded egg mixture if needed.  Once the desired shape is achieved, top with the cooked veggies and meat in an even layer.

Flip the Omelet:  When the bottom of the omelet is cooked, flip over.  If using an egg ring, release the edges from the ring.  Use a griddle spatula to carefully flip the whole omelet over to cook the other side.

Add the Hash browns and Cheese:  Place the cooked hash browns on one half of the omelette.  Sprinkle the hash browns with a generous amount of shredded cheese.

Sprinkle Shredded Cheese on top of Farmers Omelette

Fold and Serve:  Once the eggs are cooked to your liking and the cheese is melted, carefully fold the omelette in half.  Slide it onto a plate, garnish with some more shredded cheese, and serve hot.

What to Serve with an Omelet

Pair this omelet recipe with some buttered toast, a glass of orange juice, and a fresh cup of coffee.  If you want to take your omelette to the next level, top it with some homemade sausage gravy.
