The Right Apple Cider
Not all apple ciders are created equally. Finding the right apple cider is a must! I am what you would call an apple cider snob.
Growing up, my family had our own apple cider press and used it every fall. My family would start with picking fresh Michigan apples, right off the trees.
We always picked several varieties and several wooden fruit bins (the extra-large size) full! Then, the following weekends we would press the cider which was a process.
But the fresh press apple cider was the best!! If you are buying your cider, make sure it’s fresh (look at the date).
My grocery store has a couple different display’s of cider and the jugs closest to the door, is usually the oldest because they are trying to sell it quickly. Find a good apple cider by trying different brands and always check the dates.
How to Make Hot Apple Cider
Gather your ingredients: This is a simple recipe with only 2 ingredients. Start with fresh, quality apple cider and a few cinnamon sticks.
Preparation: Use a crockpot slow cooker. Add the apple cider along with the cinnamon stick to the crock pot.
Simmer to Perfection: Turn the heat to high and let the apple cider warm up to your desired temperature. Stir occasionally to combine the cinnamon flavor with the cider. Be careful not to overheat. Turn the dial to warm or low.
Serve Warm: Ladle the hot apple cider into mugs and savor the cozy goodness. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a slice of fresh apple or dried apple slice for an extra touch of charm.
How to Store Hot Apple Cider Recipe
Store the warm apple cider in the crockpot on the low setting for several hours if needed. Any leftover cider can be cooled and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 days. Drink leftover cider cold or re-heat.
What to Serve with Hot Apple Cider
Complement the warmth of the hot apple cider with delightful pairings. The classic pairing of warm apple cider is freshly baked cinnamon sugar donuts.
If you are looking to pair your apple cider with a meal, try these chicken nuggets and fries.
Apple crisp, pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin spice scomuffie, and pumpkin spice sugar cookies are a combination of pure comfort.

Okay, don’t laugh…I had no idea it was this easy to make hot apple cider. I know, I know. Sooooo embarrassing! We have quite a bit of apple cider left in a big gallon jug we bought at a local cider mill, so I used this recipe to make a batch. What a great way to stay warm on a week full of snow days.
This is my favorite thing to make during fall! I used unpasteurized, locally produced cider from local apples and the whole thing felt like a day at the fair. Amazing closing for the evening!
